A bit of the Oscar for Mexico!!

"The coproduction of TV UNAM, the short animated "Pedro and the Wolf", directed by Suzie Templeton and that was transmitted by the university television transmitter, won tonight the Oscar 2008 in the category of Best Short-Film of Animation.

The short animated was a production of TV UNAM with Breakthru Films, of Great Britain, Se-ma-for, of Poland; british Channel 4, and Archangel, of the Czech Republic.

The production by directed by awarded british filmaker Suzie Templeton, besides author of Stanley (1999) and Dog (2001), winner of important international prizes like the Bafta."

De esos algo ya lejanos días de escuela en la ENAP-UNAM en Xochimilco (donde nos conocimos como estudiantes enapos), haciendo carteles para el TIAP, concursos, proyectos independientes, siempre metido en proyectos culturales y sociales, su obra tiene un estilo muy particular y un cierto sentido del humor que ha llevado a todo el mundo...ese es el Maestro Magallanes!

The US vs John Lennon

Ya había visto circular el poster de esta cinta, con tono documental, en el mundo del myspace, en algunos blogs, la vida de John Lennon fue segada como sabemos un 8 de diciembre de 1980 en New York, por un asesino solitario, y ya había pasado de ser el Lennon de The Beatles al Lennon Mediático que uso su fama para tomar consciencia sobre algunos problemas de su época. Un artista revolucionario cuando la palabra revolución imponía cierta respeto ya que ahora es una palabra ya muy sobada y desgastada por algunos sectores. Lennon era como la consciencia de toda una generación.

En esta cinta se revela como Lennon era objeto de acecho del gobierno estadounidense, como el presidente Nixon lo queria fuera del país, ya que el poder temía a un artista influyente como el ex-beatle. Y era conocida su postura contra la guerra de Vietnam, algo que no convenía al gobierno.

La cinta "muestra la enorme fuerza potencial del arte y el miedo que el poder puede llegar a tenerle" , como escribió Tara Molina hoy en La Jornada.

"The US vs Jhon Lennon" será presentada hoy en el Parque España, colonia Condesa a las 19:30 hrs., como parte de la gira de documentales Ambulante (ver post anterior).

The Carmen Aristegui Case

I begin a personal project with a serie of posters or postcards about the more importants events, situations or personages in mexican life in this 2008. My firts image was about The Carmen Aristegui Case

Carmen Aristegui has almost 16 years of experience as an anchor and reporter on leading radio and television programs in Mexico. Nowadays she is the anchor of the news program Aristegui at CNN en Español. Besides she is leader writer for Reforma. She is in general a higly-regarded journalist.

Carmen Aristegui is recognized as an expert on national politics. For over five years, Aristegui hosted the Federal Electoral Institute's special political programming. In 1997, she also acted as an advisor to a civic group involved in the first election for the head of government in the Mexican Republic's capital.

Aristegui has received the Mexican Press Club's "National Award" in 2001, 2002 and 2004, and in 2003 she was recognized as the "Best National Anchor" and presented with a Public Image Award. She was also named "2004 Woman of the Year" by Mont Blanc, and was selected to carry the Olympic Torch through Mexico as part of its global journey to Athens that same year. In 2005, Aristegui received recognition from the National Institute of Indigenous Languages for her promotion of the indigenous languages of Mexico. Latinoamerican Prize Ondas Radio its program At the present time (2006). Etc.

For many sectors of mexican society it's was a case of censorship againts one of the most independents mexican journalists, because Carmen Aristegui following to very importants reports concern about human rights like The Zongolica Case, or the controversial "Ley Televisa", a law that inhibits the competence an perpetuates the power of duopoly coformed by Televisa and TV Azteca, or The Lydia Cacho Case, etc.

AMBULANTE 2008, LA GIRA DE DOCUMENTALES

Ayer me tomé un café en Coyoacan para leer el texto de un nuevo proyecto, una novela ilustrada, cuando caminaba en una tarde espléndida por este viejo barrio de la Ciudad de México, me llamó la atención un cartel a dos tintas: fondo amarillo y tipografía negra y el dibujo o imagen de unas butacas de cine atadas a un paracaídas cayendo del cielo sobre una ciudad, presumiblemente la Ciudad de México, o cualquier otra ciudad. Me gustó la idea del cartel, muy buena, ignoro quién diseño esa imagen. Soy cinéfilo y creo que es una imagen muy ad-hoc para reflejar el espirítu del evento: AMBULANTE 2008, La gira de Documentales,un proyecto iniciado por los actores y noveles realizadores Gael García Bernal y Diego Luna.

Y de hecho inicia hoy el evento, que es del 1 al 14 de febrero...son como 50 documentales entre mexicanos y extranjeros, habrá talleres, ruedas de prensa, conferencias con la participación de profesionales de la industria cinematográfica. La gira abarcará cines, universidades, prisiones y plazas públicas en 16 ciudades. Habrá un cineabono que te da derecho a algunas fiestas (yo me apunto a la del Pasaguëro para ver a Jessy Bulbo jaja).

El documental es un género filmico que tiene su propia aportación al cine, no sólo como entretenimiento sino como modo de tomar consciencia, como dijeron los propios organizadores. Y algunos de los mejores directores de cine están involucrados en este género. En fin, esté es un evento de esos que no te puedes perder en la Ciudad más grande del mundo....
